It is cold enough today for her to wear a hat and scarf. She grabs her favorite hat and jams it on her head, wraps a fluffy black scarf around her neck, trapping her shoulder length hair. She pulls on her plain black jacket. Thinking to herself, just like every time she puts on the jacket, that she needs to do something to personalize it, so far she has not done so. Maybe never will.
With her bag over her shoulder she heads out to work, she blends in with all of the other people out on the streets today. It is rare for her to not stand out in a crowd. It’s the hat, without it she would have people doing a double-take once they realize that yes her hair was not a mainstream normal color. Instead it is jet black with hot pink highlights. The black gleams when the sun hits it, almost a blue-black color. There is no sun for her to show off her locks in today, just gray skies.
She works in an office so she has to dress professional, no one has ever said anything about her hair. Which is always neatly fixed in some popular long ago hair style, her favorite is a lovely pair of victory rolls and a nice ribbon. But today there will be no rolls just a dainty headband.
Once she gets to her desk she starts peeling off her layers. She runs her hands through her hair, causing the pink strands to dance with the black ones as they settle in to wavy ringlets down her back. She places the cream-colored headband on and adjusts her bangs. Checks the mirror to make sure that she is ready for the day no matter what it brings.

Jackie says:
I would love to have hair like that… soft curls, retro style, and a bit of pink (well purple in my case) for a bit of rebellion.
Just a little snarky says:
Me too. I keep telling DS that when my hair goes gray I am going to put bright colors in it. He just rolls his eyes at me.
Tina says:
Very cute description! You made the hair sound very chic.
Just a little concrit–watch the grammar a bit. You had a few run-on sentences/fragments that made reading a little confusing. That detracts from the wonderfulness that is this piece.
Just a little snarky says:
Thank you for the grammar bit. I will take a look at it and see if I can tighten it up a bit.
Cheryl @ Mommypants says:
That hair just sounds so fun. I want to be a person who would wear pink highlights in my hair!
You have a typo in your second sentence, by the way: “She garbs”

I love this slice of her day and the way the ending of the story, is just the beginning of her morning.
I adore lines like “the pink strands to dance with the black ones”- so very poetic!
And last, but not least, I love the embedded reminder that you can never know everyone’s stories.
Just a little snarky says:
Thank you, it was fun to write.
Amanda says:
Very sweet-Love the juxtaposition of her rebellious hair and her mainstream job. You painted a great picture about the beginning of her morning-almost like I’m sitting at her desk with her.
