Chocolate peanut butter smoothie

20130319-082026.jpg

Today’s smoothie was really good. I have switched it up and have been having a smoothie in the morning and doing juice for snacks and lunch. No real reason other than I can. I love the way I feel these days of mostly plant based eating.

Chocolate peanut butter smoothie

frozen banana
Handful of ice
Almond milk ( really any milk)
Coco powder (unsweetened)
Peanut butter powder (I got mine on amazon)
Maple syrup(optional)

I use a single serving blender cup so I just toss everything in top off with the almond milk. Them blend and enjoy.

My version of pie

March 14th is know be nerds everywhere as pi day 3.14. So in the grand tradition pie is required to celebrate this day. I picked up some lovely little apple pies for the guys. I’m not able to eat anything with gluten it it and I have not jumped into the exciting world of gluten free flours I came up with the idea that I could make an apple pie flavored smoothie.

I know that I’m a day late but here is my belated celebration of pi day:

1 green apple sliced
1/2 frozen banana
1 1/2 cups almond milk (any milk would work)
Dash of cinnamon
Dash of pure maple syrup

Toss all this in to a blender, blend until smooth. Add a bit more cinnamon for garnish. Enjoy!

It was very good. Next time I make it I will add a bit more cinnamon. This version is all pant based but you could easily add some sort of yogurt to it as well.

Did you celebrate Pi day?

What are you eating?

San Francisco in the year 2012, in the grocery store that you shop in; secrets fill the food that you buy. They are filled with items that are being manufactured by multinational corporations. And you have no way of knowing they are lurking there. For the last 18 years these hidden ingredients have seeped into our food stream. The dinner choices are between GMO Blue, GMO Yellow or GMO Green for many. These companies have dark secrets that have caused death and destruction all in the name of profit. Lawsuits and threats are the standard practice to keep their secrets. People have finally started to notice changes happening around them. They started asking questions, but is it too late?

I wish I could say that this is a plot from my best-selling novel, but sadly it is what is going on today in all of our lives. There are genetically modified ingredients in our food supply. At first glance this idea sounds like a good one, plants that are heartier, resistant to pests, yield bigger crops and cheaper to grow. That all sounds like a good thing, but it seems that this genetic engineering has been done in a vacuum. By that I mean did you know that mass produced fresh corn that you can buy at the local store has been altered to kill the bugs. Therein lies the problem, no one knows any of this, it’s a secret in the food industry that may be causing harm to the planet and to our families. We have a right to know what is in our food, what we are feeding to our growing children and what the long term effects are going to be.

Anytime that I have done a search on the internet for GMO related information one name keeps popping up. They are part of the group of companies that are throwing tons of money in negative ads against Prop 37 here in California. It makes me angry that something as simple as a label to tell me what I am buying isn’t something that is already happening like it is in the rest of world. To fight this conglomeration of corporations and win, we need people to pay attention to see through the smoke and mirrors, to ask questions. It worked for the labeling of milk and the rBST, now we know if the milk in our house has added hormones in it. Why is it too much to ask for the rest of our food to have the same information on it?

The negative ads are saying that it will increase the cost of food for everyone; the pro ads are saying it will cost consumers nothing. I honestly don’t know who is right but what I know is that I want the right to choose what I buy and what I eat. Don’t you want this information?

Stuff, Things, and Coffee

At work I am not know for being a joiner, as is look we all want to get together and learn how to cook something as a “team building” event. I have no interest in this, at all. So, maybe this makes me a bad “team” member or just a bitchy person. I am not really sure which it is. Well that is not completely true I know that I am a bitchy person, so… anyway.

So the Current in Charge (CIC), suggested getting coffee on Friday. I was all “sure, I like coffee.” This was all very much to everyones surprise. Snarky always says “no thank you” when ever anything is offered like this.

For some reason free coffee was what was needed to get me to join in just a little. Who knew!

On a side note the question for today from the Daily Post is:

My answer to this would be, lots of ways. On the weekend I don’t spend much time with my electronics. (except to post daily & now with Script Frenzy) I would clean the house, work in the back yard, read a book, make a dress, craft something, nap or all of the above.

While I love my devices I can entertain myself with out them. I am old enough to remember a time when there was no interwebs, cell phones or computers for that matter. Yes that makes me old, I know.
